FINE MIX Trip November 2003
Sometimes it rains, sometimes it is sunny. There are moments you want to be alone; at others you do not. There are days you feel more like McDonald’s than foie gras. Sometimes we want to walk, other times ride a bike. Sometimes you would like to go out with the right person, other times you must go out with the wrong one. There are certain days we are dying to have some cachaça, other days, too. Sometimes we wake up feeling like listening to Dalida, and we fall asleep to Arvo Part. Other times it is the other way around. There are days we want to be just in our trunks. Others, not even in our trunks. One day we think São Paulo is very ugly. Other days, too. Some times we want to go around singing, other times we realize how ridiculous it is. Once we love, another time we do not. Now, if you are walking, with the right person, on a sunny day, listening to Chris Montez… all of these together, mixed this way… this might be happiness. Yet, if you prefer to ride your bike in the rain, with the wrong person, listening to Arvo Part in São Paulo, that also might be happiness. In life, each of us mixes these ingredients as we please. That’s where the fun lies.

His series of photographs entitled “Jet Airliner” capture the lifestyle of a true jetsetter as they come and go to hotspots across the world. In this case, Hoflehner has photographed jets as they arrive and depart from the Princess Juliana International Airport in St. Maarten, Dutch West Indies.

Hiroshi Fujiwara teases up with a glimpse into his custom Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King. Further cementing his baller status, the extremely pricey timepiece features pink dials along with a fragment design logo and matching pink accenting. Definitely another interesting piece from the Japanese “Godfather of Streetwear.”

Graft Lab’s latest addition to Dubai, entitled Vertical Village, is a cluster of mix-use buildings that emphasize reducing solar gain and maximizing solar production. The buildings are self-shaded on the northern side and on the east-west axis to reduce long-angle sun penetration. Solar collectors on the south end automatically pivot to maximize solar-energy aggregation. The multi-use building, which is expected to earn a LEED Gold Certificate, offers an appealing aesthetic which will easily make its mark 0n Dubai’s dynamic skyline. The “futuristic” angular forms create a shared central space with large pools, while the compositional assemblage of the individual buildings form a cohesive whole.

RojoOut Urban Stages, São Paulo

After São Paulo city officials ordered graffiti clean-up crews to leave work by Os Gemeos and other famous São Paulo street artists alone, art collective and magazine Rojo asked the city's Urban Development Department (EMURB) to allow them to tap artists like Tofer and MWM Graphics to help spice up drab concrete structures across the city

Sponsored by Smart, the just-completed project commissioned Rojo-affiliated artists to paint 11 concrete structures including air-vent columns and blank walls across São Paulo over a few weeks. Nuria, Tony de Marco/Superblast and Eltono got on scaffolds to paint, while MWM Graphics, Ovni and Tofer scaled and drew their work but handed it off to collaborators to carry out.
